SOLID ROCK CAFÉ

By Jill Potrykus

The Solid Rock café supplies many activities for the young but it can cater for all ages. It is open on Friday, and Saturday evenings from 7:30 p.m. until 9:30p.m. and Tuesdays for S1 and 2 from 7:30p.m. until 9:00p.m.. In the summer it is also open on a Saturday afternoon. This gives youngsters several opportunities to visit it. The Solid Rock café is organised by Burntisland Parish Church and stands in a central part of the High Street with its blacked out windows and bright red surroundings. Activities on offer include a pool table which proves popular with most youngsters attending. Music is also an addition to Solid Rock providing a backdrop particularly on quiet evenings. The café also does what it says on the tin, because it sells Fair Trade products such as chocolate and biscuits.

Many teenagers go to the Solid Rock café to play pool or air hockey and it also provides a good social area where youngsters can make friends in a comfortable, friendly environment.

The younger teenagers tend to just go home after Solid Rock due to their specific evening being on a weekday night. Perhaps having the Solid Rock café will give teenagers a bit more to do in Burntisland out of their homes and stop them from hanging around the streets.

BURNTISLAND YOUTH THEATRE

By Jill Potrykus

It's back for another year! Roll up and buy your ticket for The Burntisland Youth Theatre Pantomime! With sell out nights in previous years it seemed almost certain to happen again. For 2005, the production was 'Cinderella' which has always been a favourite for all ages. The main character, Cinderella, was played by Jodie Montague, and the roles of the two ugly sisters were occupied by Sean Marshall and Callum Simpson - three roles in themselves which could put on a fantastic show. The double act of the ugly sisters raised many laughs with the outrageous costumes and two young males dressed, in a sense, as drag queens. The show however, also contained a host of other characters who without question will contribute to a great performance.

'Cinderella' was shown in the Young Community Hall on the nights of the 12th to the 15th of December at 7pm, with a matinee on Saturday the 17th at 2pm.

Burntisland Youth Theatre Group is directed by   Karen A Speirs in the Young Community Hall on Wednesday evenings from 7pm until 9pm from August until the Pantomime in December. New members are welcome from August for the age group of 11 to 21 years. So, if you enjoy acting and drama, Burntisland Youth Theatre is certainly the place to be, with well performed productions which hold many laughs. Of course, a great deal of hard work goes into the pantomime and an amazing outcome is produced which is very enjoyable for the audience. So when the time comes again get in that queue and purchase a ticket for a fun night at the pantomime!
