Burgh Buzz Editorial
Despite the continuing cold winds of what has seemed a long winter, we are focussing on the forthcoming summer attractions, which we hope will bring pleasure to both local people and visitors to the town. We have articles from the Highland Games Committee, Civic Week Committee and news of the Summer Queen, as well as other events and exhibitions around the town. In our autumn issue we hope to be able to bring you pictures of some of the key events.
The many changes and developments in our town continue apace, some bringing more pleasure than others! The High Street developments have caused some confusion for pedestrians and concern for traders, so we look forward to seeing a worthwhile end result. Because we have had so many contributions from community organisations, the article on the Seamill developments by Councillor Ron Edwards has been held over for a future issue.
We are most grateful to you for the positive and constructive feedback which we have received on our first issue of the Burgh Buzz. Into our second issue, as Kevin and I try to fit the editing of an increased amount of copy and advertising into our already busy schedules, it is of great comfort to us that there are people out there who take our community newspaper seriously; some so seriously, in fact, that we have received threats and insults from an advertiser and copy contributor respectively who disagreed with the Editor's decisions. Call us naïve if you like, but this is something we had not expected in a voluntary community newsletter. This has prompted us to publish our policies on contributions to the Burgh Buzz, which you will see in this issue.
With this issue there are also some small changes to the team as we welcome Fiona Burrell, who joins us to help with the distribution, and some feature writers go off to do other things, including school exams. We will lose two of our team when they go to University in the autumn but have already had an approach from a new "cub reporter" who we will welcome in the next issue.
